The restaurant opened in 1919 in downtown Waco. Innovative beyond its time, the Elite was the first restaurant in Waco to use refrigeration in 1923. In the 1940’s a second location opened on Waco’s famous traffic circle. The Elite was often frequented by a then-Private Elvis Presley who was stationed in Fort Hood. You’ll have to watch Fixer Upper to find out what the dynamic duo do with this unique property. The Gaines family donated the proceeds from an auction of the old Elite Cafe’s contents ($51,000) to local non-profit Mission Waco’s effort to create a nonprofit grocery store in an older neighborhood.
