The Waco Downtown Farmers Market brings together the best that Waco and its surrounding communities have to offer. Every Saturday morning year round, from 9 am to 1 pm, and Tuesday nights during the summer from 3-7 pm, a variety of agricultural, artisan, and culinary vendors gather next to the Brazos river to offer their wares to locals and visitors alike. Located on the grounds of an old RV park right off University Parks Dr, just down the road from the Cotton Palace Bed and Breakfast, a visit to the Waco Downtown Farmers Market is the perfect way to spend the morning. Grab a bite to eat, browse the vendors, listen to some live music, meet new friends as you enjoy the local fare, let the kids play in the grassy area, let the pups make new friends too and just soak in the best of #Wacotown.
Though the vendor line-up seems to change from week to week, you can always be assured of finding the freshest local produce and the tastiest treats. It would be impossible to include every amazing vendor in this post, but here are a few local favorites not to miss when you check out the Waco Downtown Farmers Market:
As you enter the Farmers Market, you’ll probably smell them before you even see the Co-Town Crepes booth. Serving up hot, made-to-order crepes, both sweet and savory, this popular booth is always busy. With creations like peach cobbler and jalepeno popper, you won’t be sorry you waited! Flavors vary from week to week check out their Facebook page for the most current info.
Cuppa offers a fresh spin on comfort food - they serve it in a cup! The menu changes but they usually offer a choice of two amazing dishes at the farmers market. You can expect to find things like homemade bacon ramen and cheese grits and Spring Salad with kale, beet greens, arugula, yellow squash and a bacon vinaigrette. Cuppa’s creations are always made with about 90% of ingredients bought from a local Waco producer or farm, so you can be sure they are amazing!
Rancho Martinez Tamales are hot and fresh, featuring non-gmo corn in tasty flavor combinations of cheese & jalapeno, pastured chicken, cheese & black bean, and grass-fed beef. Great for breakfast, lunch or anytime, they offer tamales by the pair, the half dozen, or dozen, but be sure to grab a fork, because you probably won’t be able to wait until you get home to try one!
Luna Juice Bar invites you to “Get All Juiced Up” with their fresh-squeezed juice combinations. Their Liquid Sunshine juice (grapefruit, orange, organic apple, ginger) is not to be missed!
Cheddar Box combines fresh local ingredients in new and interesting ways to bring you gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches that are perfect for lunch or dinner. With ingredients like Vitek’s Barbeque Brisket, fresh produce, and even balsamic marinated peaches combined with mounds of gooey, melted cheese on homemade bread toasted to a perfect golden brown, this is definitely not your average grilled cheese!
For the freshest fruit around, check out Lightsey Farms. They are especially known for their peaches, figs, pears, melons, blackberries and persimmons (largest crop in the state). And fall also brings fresh creamer, purple hull and black eyed peas. Yum!
Richardson Farms are proud to be conservation minded in all their endeavors, and they offer grass fed beef, pastured chicken and pork, and free range eggs. Everything they produce is free from growth hormones and antibiotics. If you’re enjoying the Farmers Market with your four-legged friends, this booth is a must - they have great dog biscuits too!
So much to see, so much to eat, so much to enjoy! The Cotton Palace Bed and Breakfast always includes fresh, local ingredients in every delicious gourmet breakfast, and the Waco Downtown Farmers Market makes it easy for you to do so as well.
